About the Event

Awakening the Heart: The Tibetan Psychology of Compassion
Dr. Miles Neale

While advances in technology and science have brought the world into greater communication and proximity, we face global ecological, economic, and political challenges on a scale never before seen in human history.  There may be no spiritual virtue more timely and necessary than that of universal compassion, and no method for its cultivation more practical and relevant than that espoused in the Tibetan psychology.  In this four-part course we will explore the essential themes of the Tibetan Buddhist approach to awakening the heart of compassion grounded in the wisdom of interdependence, presented in the four-fold psychology of exchanging self with other, exemplified in the intent of the awakened altruist (bodhisattva), and actualized in the six transcendent practices.  We will read excerpts from the Tibetan classics on the awakened heart and begin each class with a period of guided compassion meditation.
