10:00 am – 6:00 pm

BECOME A CERTIFIED MEDITATION TEACHER

If you are interested in developing the skills to become a certified mindfulness meditation teacher, join Senior Buddhist teacher, David Nichtern, at the Tibet House for our new 100 hour Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training program.

This training immersion will help you gain a more complete understanding of meditation and an overview of the stages of the Buddhist path. It will strengthen your own practice, and also develop your ability to present mindfulness meditation in a clear and genuinely helpful way to others in both a group and 1-1 setting.

The program is aimed at those who wish to become more skillful in presenting mindfulness – such as therapists, social workers, yoga teachers, health care professionals, educators, coaches, and anyone seeking to integrate teaching meditation into existing modalities. It is also open to those who simply wish to deepen their own practice and study.

During the training there will be group practice, teaching exercises, additional individual practice and study requirements. Students will be asked to practice mindfulness meditation for a minimum of 20 minutes per day, at least 5 days a week for the duration of the program.Additional details will be presented for smaller group practice and mock teaching sessions once the program is underway.

David’s past Meditation Teacher Training students have gone on to:

– Build careers teaching meditation workshops and classes all over the United States and Canada.
– Create a roster of recurring clients drawing from individual students, corporations, hospitals, yoga studios, prisons and schools.
– Experience significant personal transformation and led others to a more grounded, sane, and open hearted existence.

Through immersion in learning and personal cultivation, as well as supervised teaching practice, participants will:

– Learn the foundations of Buddhist philosophy and practice.
– Have the opportunity to lead mock teaching sessions in one-to-one and group settings, receiving constructive feedback from
teachers and other trainees.
– Learn how to relate clearly and precisely to the most frequently asked questions and difficulties from beginning students.
– Build a supportive learning community with your fellow classmates.
– Develop greater presence, balance, clarity, and insight by strengthening and stabilizing your own meditation practice.

*** Certificate of Completion will be given to students who complete all requirements, make a satisfactory teaching presentation, and pass a written final exam on the material covered. ***

All classes will be held at Tibet House, 22 West 15 Street (near Union Square)

Friday, October 18; 7-9PM – The Social, Cultural, and Political Impact of the Mindfulness Revolution – A Workshop with Ethan & David Nichtern
Join the Nichterns at Tibet House on Friday, October 18 for a lively discussion of how far mindfulness has come in our society, and how far it has yet to go.

Recent decades have seen nothing short of a Mindfulness Revolution in Western Society. Meditative disciplines that originated in ancient Buddhist practice have come to have a strong influence in Western psychotherapy, neuroscience, art, social justice, and more. A serious meditator is even among the candidates for US President in 2020, and we’re not even talking about Marianne Williamson!

And yet, what is the impact of all this? Is the Mindfulness Movement just “McMindfulness” as some wary critics have argued? Is it just a consumeristic fad? Or is there a deeper social transformation happening here?
