Bodhidharma’s Yi Jin Jing, Classic of Muscle Sinew Change for Total Health and Spiritual Realization
Working with Your Main Organs and Their Corresponding Emotions to Cultivate a Harmonious Physical/Emotional/Spiritual State.
Bodhidharma, the founder of Chan (Zen) Buddhism in China over 1500 years ago, created and taught the “Yi Jin Jing,” the “Classic of Muscle Sinew Change” to the Shaolin monks. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, specific emotions physically dwell in particular organs. If the emotions are negative, they can harm the corresponding organ and eventually cause imbalance, illness and spiritual malaise. With the “Yi Jin Jing,” one refines the blood and “presses” it and your qi through the muscles, fascia, ligaments and meridians into the organs. In this process, you embrace the negative emotions and transform them to positive virtuous qualities, physically heal the respective organs, and awaken the spirit. There are altogether 12 organs which work together in pairs. In the fall, we worked with Lungs (sadness to kindness) and Large Intestine (stagnation to relief); Stomach (irritability to satisfaction) and Spleen (worry to confidence); Heart (frenzy to joy) and Small Intestine (uncertainty to clarity).
This spring we will work with the Urinary Bladder (jealousy to progress) and Kidneys (fear to caution); Pericardium (defensiveness to protection) and Triple Warmer (fragmentation to cohesion); Gall Bladder (timidity to courage) and Liver (anger to enthusiasm).
In each workshop we will begin with Intermediate Silk Brocades to cultivate physical strength and mental toughness. We then will work with all 6 organs. In April, we will focus on Urinary Bladder/Kidneys; in May, Pericardium/Triple Warmer; and in June, Gall Bladder/Liver.
We will also review the organ practices from the fall, so that you can become familiar with the whole set: a penultimate practice for achieving the strongest physical vitality, an all encompassing emotional intelligence expressed with love, and a spiritual realization embracing the highest wisdom. A true classic for transforming your Body/Mind to become a virtuous being!!!
And, if possible, in late June, a special Saturday 2 to 3 hour practice in the park, when we practice the compete set, followed by a wonderful Chinese meal! All the practices are easy to do. Everyone is welcome! Video links of all the practices are available for your home practice.
