Glimpsing Effortless Mindfulness with Loch Kelly

Dec

“Personally, I’m thankful to Loch for offering this gift to humanity at this crucial time when so many people are looking for living spirituality free from outdated paradigms.” ―Anam Thubten, Author of No Self, No Problem

Tibetan Buddhist teacher Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, said: “There are two types of mindfulness: deliberate and effortless.” Deliberate mindfulness includes one-pointed focus and nonjudgmentally observing the changing contents of our mind and body. The second approach is called effortless mindfulness, not because no initial effort is made, but because of the discovery of an awareness that is already awake and able to focus effortlessly.

We can begin with deliberate mindfulness as a good foundation, or start with effortless mindfulness. In this evening, we will learn how to unhook awareness from thinking and have it turn around to be aware from awake awareness. Rather than concentrating to calm and focus your mind, we will learn to intentionally shift into awake awareness, which is already calm, intelligent, and able to effortlessly focus. This is an important method to learn for your journey of awakening. Effortless mindfulness helps us shift from a self-centered identity to an empty, yet open-hearted, way of seeing and being.
