Divine Mother Tara Meditation and Mantra Chanting with Geshe Tashi Dorje la and Tashi Chodron

This 55 minute teaching and guided meditation will be led by chant master and meditation teacher Geshe Tashi Dorje la, Founder of Dolchok Tsokpa, NYNJ- Tara Center, and Himalayan arts and culture expert Tashi Chodron.

In observation of Women’s History Month join us to celebrate the courage of all women and be blessed by Mother Tara -Tara also known as Drolma, ‘She who Liberates’ — who emerges in 21 feminine forms according to Tibetan Buddhism. Tara is the manifestation of compassionate and enlightened activity, and acknowledged as such by all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This 55 minute teaching and guided meditation will be led by chant master and meditation teacher Geshe Tashi Dorje la, Founder of Dolchok Tsokpa, NYNJ- Tara Center, and Himalayan arts and culture expert Tashi Chodron.

Geshe Tashi Dorje la is the director of the Center for Universal Peace in New York and chant master in the Gelugpa tradition. He was born in a remote village called Phulping Katti on the border of Tibet and Nepal. In 1991 he received the Getsul (Samsrana) ordination blessing from His Eminence Kachen Lobsang Soepa, former abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, and in 1993 he received Bikshu (Gelong) Ordination Blessing from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Ten years later he was awarded the Rigchung degree upon completion of the perfection of wisdom course. In September 2005, he was appointed to be the chant master, the third-highest ranking official of Sera Mey Monastery. Among his many additional honors, he received a doctorate in Buddhism, concentrating in the Five Major Texts from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. In the United States, Geshe la teaches dharma and the Tibetan language to Tibetans, Nepalese, and Westerners.

He has also guided meditations and performed chanting at Carnegie hall, attended the interfaith breakfast with the mayor of New York City, and participated in the Buddha’s birthday celebration at the United Nations.


Tashi Chodron, Awakening Wisdom Experience: Mindfulness teacher, Founder of Himalayan Pantry Inc and Voices of Tibet – Tibetan Oral History Project. Former consultant on Himalayan Arts and Culture at Baruch Rubin Project at Baruch College. Recipient of Gold star awards from American Himalayan Foundation for tirelessly educating and preservation of Tibetan culture. She leads Awakening Wisdom Experience: Mindfulness Meditation to adults and weekly Children Mindfulness Meditation to help children and parents during the Pandemic. She was a spokesperson for the Heifer project founded by President Jimmy Carter and helped to raise funds to benefit Tibetans inside Tibet. Former Board member of Committee of 100 for Tibet, Bay Area Friends of Tibet , Namdroling Dharma Center Montana, Tibetan Association of Northern California and other organizations for the preservation of Tibetan Culture. Currently, she works at the Rubin Museum manages Himalayan Cultural Programs and Partnerships.
