Teaching on Lama Tsongkhapa’s Lam Rim: 12 Links of Dependent Origination

Prof. Robert Thurman will introduce Geshe Ngawang Sonam, who will give a three-part teaching talk on Lama Tsongkhapa’s Great Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Lam Rim), with a special focus on the 12 Links of Dependent Origination. After doing his primary education, Geshe Ngawang Sonam joined Sera Monastic University in 1995 to devote his life to intensive study and practice of Buddhism. In 2008, he was selected by the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to become one of the English translators for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Since then, he has accompanied His Holiness to various places in India and to around nine countries around the world. The Geshe degree he attained is li9ke a PhD., but also includes achievement in the advanced spiritual practices of Tibetan Buddhism. Geshe la is fluent in English.

Geshe Ngawang Sonam studied at Sera Me Monastic university and attained the highest degree of Geshe after 22 years of study. He has translated for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and works in His Holiness’s office, as well as being a professional translator in his spare time.




Robert Thurman is Professor of Indo-Tibetan Studies at Columbia University, Emeritus; President of Tibet House U.S.; and President of the American Institute of Buddhist Studies. He is a popular lecturer on Tibetan Buddhism, the translator of many philosophical treatises and sutras, and author of numerous books including the national bestsellers, Inner Revolution: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Real Happiness; Infinite Life; The Tibetan Book of the Dead; and many others. His most recent book is Man of Peace: The Illustrated Life Story of the Dalai Lama of Tibet published by Tibet House US, with Hay House International.
