Class 1: The Buddha’s Life and Self-Compassion
Class 2: Awareness and the Middle Path
Class 3: Joy, Non-Dogmatism, and Metta for All Beings
Class 4: Karma, Intention, and the Buddha’s Last Words

How does the Buddha’s path guide us toward happiness? What was the Buddha’s way of thinking about a fulfilling life? Why was it so revolutionary that it turned the whole world upside down? Why does it continue to be influential? And why are the Buddha’s teachings more relevant than ever today? This class will teach the Buddha’s path toward happiness in a way that’s fresh and can be put to practice daily. You will have a whole community (sangha) on this journey with you!

In each class we will meditate and explore the Buddha’s teachings of how we can be “nourished by the same food of joy as the gods of light.” You’ll receive meditations and informal practices to do during the week to help you align with the Buddha’s powerful message. The meditations for this class will integrate the Buddha’s words from scripture and sacred texts.  Myths, legends, and fables will also be woven into the course.

This is a great class for both beginners and advanced students. It’s taught by Elizabeth Pyjov, a serious meditation practitioner, who recently completed an MTS in Buddhist Studies at Harvard Divinity School.

Elizabeth Pyjov, JD, MTS studied the neuroscience, philosophy, and pedagogy of compassion at Stanford Medical School with the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education. She has taught compassion meditation at Stanford University, Harvard Law School, Columbia University, Mt. Sinai Medical School, NYU Medical School, Deutsche Bank, Novartis, Warby Parker, Tibet House US, the Rubin Museum, Horace Mann, and the Harvard Club of New York. Elizabeth graduated from magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in Romance Languages and Literatures and the Classics. She finished a joint degree at Harvard Law School (J..D.) and Harvard Divinity School (MTS, Buddhist Studies) in 2020. In the past, Elizabeth has worked for Global Justice, the NY Attorney General’s Office, and Click Therapeutics in New York City; for Italian television at RAI International in Rome; the United Nations in Geneva; and at the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) in Palo Alto, CA. She has worked or studied in Argentina, Italy, France, Peru, Switzerland, Russia, and Spain. Her international experience has led her to understand that among those of different traditions, customs, and religions, people find happiness in many of the same ways. They want to be healthy, do meaningful work, and be close to loved ones—and what brings joy is kindness, a caring attitude, and compassion.
