Dr Namgyal Tsering, Senior physician in Tibetan medical Astro Institute, born in 1956 in Tibet. In 1973 he joined Men Tsee- khang, (Tibetan medical Astro Institute of H.H. the Dalai Lama).
In 1978 he graduated as Menpa Kachupa (doctorate degree) and undertook the responsibilities of Menpa (Doctor), Assistant Director and the Director successively of the pharmaceutical department.
He compound medicine and thrice took part in preparation of precious pills, and started his ﬁrst practice in 1982 under the supervision of Late Dr. Tenzin Chodak, senior personal physician to H.H.the 14th Dalai Lama, and the second was supervised by Late Dr. Tenzin Namgyal in 1987. And ﬁnally the third one in 1999 he compound himself with the practical /theoretical knowledge from his teachers.
In 1987 he post graduated as Menrampa Chungwa (degree), and later in 1999 received Menrampa dingwa (degree). In 1992, he appointed as Secretary of Men Tsee-khang cultural committee. Two years later he was transfer to Shillong branch clinic as CMO (chief medical ofﬁcer), after that he served various department including Principle of medical college , Deputy director of Tibetan medical and astro institute, and was able to tour Europe, South America, to impart lecture and consultations. He performed as physician with utmost determination and served Men Tsee-Khang for 30 years,
We conclude with appreciation for his contribution in community and service in Men tsee-Khang under the guidance of H.H. The Dalai Lama.
Kunga Dhondup was born in 1977 at a place called Kollegal, South India. He studied in central Tibetan schools and completed class 12 in the year 1996. In 1998, he enrolled himself in Tibetan medical and astrological institution and studied Tibetan Astro-Science for 5 years and graduated with distinction. The year later, he joined Astro-Science department of Men-Tsee-Khang and since then working in the department in various capacities. His jobs in the department include compiling almanac, casting various horoscopes, consultations and many others. Till now he has given lectures and consultations in many countries: India, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, South Korea and the USA.
Institute of Tibetan Medicine and Astrology
The main objective of Institute of Tibetan Medicine and Astrology, also known as Men-Tsee-Khang is to preserve, promote and practise Sowa Rigpa, the ancient Tibetan system of medicine, astronomy and astrology. It also aims to improve the health and sanitation of the refugees in particular and the public in general and to establish dispensaries in order to provide accessible health care to the people regardless of caste, creed or colour.
Education and Higher Studies in the fields of Tibetan Medicine and Astrology, Research and collaboration with scholars and institutes in India and abroad between different healing systems and to produce Tibetan medicines in an environmentally sensitive manner are the important goals in the development of this ancient healing system.
